Overview

How TabBud and Browser Bookmarks differ

Every browser already has bookmarks: a name, a URL, folders, a bookmark bar, and account sync if you sign into Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Apple. There is nothing to install. That is the correct default when you have a handful of permanent links.

The comparison is not 'does TabBud beat bookmarks at being bookmarks.' Bookmarks win at zero extra software, OS-level shortcuts, and not depending on an extension store. TabBud exists for people who outgrew that tree: too many research tabs, notes that belong on the link, and a need to reopen a set as a group or share a Space.

Verdict

Which should you choose?

Where Browser Bookmarks is stronger

  • Already installed. No extra permissions, no extension review, no store outage.
  • Free forever. Sync rides the browser account you already have (Google, Mozilla, Microsoft, Apple).
  • Bookmark bar and folder keyboard access are faster than any popup for a small, stable set of links.
  • Works in Safari and every other browser TabBud does not list. If Safari is the constraint, native bookmarks (or Toast) cover it.

Where TabBud is stronger

Free plan: 200 Cards · 20 Collections · 5 Spaces, with cloud sync and notes included.

  • TabBud organizes saved tabs as Spaces → Collections → Cards, with rich-text notes on each Card and a whole Collection you can launch as a tab group. Native bookmarks give you a name, a URL and folders.
  • TabBud shares a Space with view or edit roles, and Collections with granular permissions on Team. Browsers have no live shared folder with roles — you send a list of links.
  • TabBud's global search covers titles, URLs, descriptions and notes. Browser bookmark search covers the name and URL.
  • TabBud is one account across Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Brave. Chrome and Firefox each sync to their own separate vendor account.

Choose Browser Bookmarks if

Stay on browser bookmarks if you have a short, stable set of links, you already sync the browser account, and you do not need notes or team Spaces.

Choose TabBud if

Pick TabBud when the bookmark bar is a junk drawer, you need notes on links, or you want one library on Chrome and Firefox with optional sharing.

TabBud vs Browser Bookmarks FAQs

You would not, if a folder tree is enough. TabBud is a second layer: notes, Collections you can launch as a group, and a library that follows one TabBud account on Chrome and Firefox.

Yes. TabBud's Browser Bookmarks section shows the bookmarks already in the current browser. Save the ones you want as Cards when they belong in a Space.

Not as one vendor library. Each browser syncs its own account. TabBud's pitch is one account on both official stores, while Browser Bookmarks still reflects whatever that browser already stores.

They follow the browser account and vendor privacy policy. TabBud stores library data in its cloud with the practices described in the TabBud privacy policy.

Browsers are weak at live shared folders with roles. TabBud Team is the productization of that problem for Spaces and Collections.
