TabBud 2.0: A New UI Foundation

TabBud 2.0: A New UI Foundation

Released August 31, 2026.

Some releases add features. TabBud 2.0 changes what every future feature is built on.

TabBud’s interface moved from Chakra UI to Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui. If you use TabBud every day, it will feel familiar: this is a foundational upgrade, not a visual redesign. The difference is underneath, and it shows up in two places: how light TabBud runs, and how quickly it can improve.

Lighter on your browser

A tab manager sits on every new tab, so its weight matters. 2.0 brings:

  • Less UI overhead, for a lighter extension
  • Lower RAM and resource use
  • More efficient rendering across the new tab page and the extension

Built for customization

The new foundation gives TabBud far more control over its own components. Layouts, spacing, interactions and visual details are easier to fine-tune. That matters for the options you already use, like themes, layouts and Compact Mode, and for the ones still to come.

Why rebuild instead of redesign?

Rebuilding the foundation first means every later release ships faster and more consistently. The releases that followed show it:

  • 2.1, one day later: a cleaner Notes and Supercharge experience
  • 2.2: easier navigation, a Settings drawer and Notifications
  • 2.3: import from any tab manager, and export anywhere
  • 2.4: AI summaries for your Collections
